Lee

Lee’s a buddy of mine from way back. During uni, she used to make a pretty mean bubble tea and, sugar fiend that I am, we quickly became friends.

Six years later, we found some time after work to take a few frames. I’m glad we did too, cos I really like how these turned out. Thanks heaps Lee, for the photos and the catch up!

For the film lovers, the black and white is shot on Ilford XP2, the others on digi.

An important acknowledgement

Until this blog, I never really had a way to not just show a set of pictures, but to do so in a way that made me proud of the presentation or work in it’s entirety, as the sum of it’s parts.

Seeing the collection of images and (sometimes clumsy) words that forms each post, I can’t help but feel a little proud of each one. When all those posts are put together into this blog, I know that when I look back in years to come, it’ll send me grinning, and I’ll appreciate it all the more.

There’s someone in particular I need to acknowledge and thank for this.

To Katie, thanks for your support, encouragement and confidence. For giving your pro tips and advice, for your endless patience. Without you, this would be another idea bouncing around in my head. You’ve helped me work smarter, write better, post more and even shoot better. Thanks for helping me build this, and for so much more too.

Wandering New York – Part 1.

Impromptu decisions sometimes turn out to be the best ones.

On a last minute whim while in SF, Migs and I booked flights and in less than a day, were stepping out of a yellow cab into the heart (and heat) of a NY summer night. Minutes later, with an izakaya feast in front of us, we cheersed our Asahis.

These pics show an odd skew of the trip. They seem a lot grittier than the memories I have from wandering about or from the typical associations I’d have with the place — I’ll post those in the next round.

Back to this set, most of them are taken from the top of a red bus tour. Pro-tip for the future, attempting to cram half of Manhattan into a 4 hour bus trip will be met with limited success. Also, 3 days here is not nearly enough!
