Little glimpses

There are a lot of times where I’m roaming about in the day to day and I notice something awesome/photo worthy. I might pause and stare or double take, or maybe just keep walking. I’m not usually looking for anything in particular when it happens, just zoning out on a train, maybe relaxing with friends or whatever it might be. Life goes on, the moment is gone.

Over the Christmas holidays, I thought I’d challenge myself a little. To actively seek those moments, maybe find some beautiful light or interesting shadows, then to actually photo the thing. No need for it to tell a story, or for it to be laden with meaning or depth, just something nice I saw and wanted to show others or keep for myself. One for each day.

As I went through the photos I took over the ten or so days, it really hit me how much I love doing this – witnessing those little glimpses in time and photoing them as best I can. Not just that, but sharing them too. It’s so satisfying. Hope you dig them as much as I enjoyed shooting them.

Cheers,
V.

Day 1: Bike cruising in suburbia
Found a nice hilltop in my neighbourhood to relax in and start the summer break. Waited and watched the sunset with the trusty iPhone.

Day 2: Christmas lunch 1, Migs 0
Food coma statistics must spike significantly this time of year.

Day 3: Light installs at the MCA
This pic is actually from Day 4. I think the food coma hit me a little delayed = no pics for today. Lots of tasty leftovers though. Chubby life, hajime.

Day 4: “Hey guys, don’t smile”
Spotted a nicely lit alley, shuffled my friends into place, set the camera, then dashed into an awkward wall lean. Kudos to the tripod for taking this one.

Day 5: Shelly beach + boulders
My first serious attempt at underwater photogy. We carried little boulders to stay neutrally buoyant – onlookers’ looked rather puzzled at those. Extra props to Laura + Cols for braving the 18′C water!

Day 6: Surry Hills Sausage Dog
Dashed up to the owner across the street as soon as I spotted this guy. I have to say, people in Surry Hills were super friendly. V happy to be in pics and to stop for a chat. To everyone I met, thanks! I’ll post more pics from here soon.

Day 7: Whistleblower
From the window seat of a Sydney train, sun setting and casting a nice little shadow. Lively tunes in my ears. I wonder what that song was playing?

Day 8: Yoshi
Home of some v cool and lovely people.

Day 9: Welcome 2012
2011 was wonderful already, and 2012 I’m sure will be even better.

Day 10: Quiet time
Actually, to the left of where Joshie is sitting, ten new years revellers kick on. Self included.

Day 11: First family dinner, 2012
Prime example of where I wouldn’t ordinarily have taken a photo. I quite dig this though.

Day 12: Swarm
End of my day, the start for others.
